The Nutrition Resource Centre works to ensure the effective dissemination and implementation of several provincial nutrition promotion programs and resources. At present, we manage

  • Eat Smart! Ontario's Healthy Restaurant Program
  • the Community Food Advisor Program
  • Food Steps
  • the Healthy Eating Manual
The Nutrition Resource Centre supports each of the programs and resources in several ways, including:
  • Assisting with program implementation or starting up a new program
  • Material distribution
  • Maintaining and updating program materials and resources
  • Monitoring and evaluation

Community Food Advisor Program
The Community Food Advisor (CFA) Program is a volunteer-based peer education program. Volunteers are trained to provide reliable information and education to promote safe and nutritious food selection, preparation, and storage to consumers in Ontario. There are currently 18 sites throughout Ontario with over 400 volunteers participating.

Eat Smart! Ontario's Healthy Restaurant Program
Eat Smart! Ontario’s Healthy Restaurant Program is an award program that recognizes and promotes restaurants that meet exceptional standards in healthy food choices, safe food handling and 100% smoke-free seating. The Eat Smart! Program is currently delivered in over 30 health unit regions across the province with currently over 900 participating restaurants. There is also an Eat Smart! School Cafeteria Program and an Eat Smart! Workplace Cafeteria progam.

Food Steps
Food Steps is a self-help, healthy eating program based on the stages of change theory. The program focuses on assisting individuals reduce the amount of fat in their diet.

The Healthy Eating Manual ("Healthy Eating in Action")
The Healthy Eating Manual is an educational resource designed for individuals who have the opportunity to include healthy eating education in existing and developing programs in order to increase knowledge and skills on healthy eating. The manual contains background information, eight interactive mini-lessons, and recommended handout materials.

Healthy Eating for Healthy Aging
A nutrition education kit for community leaders interested in helping older adults learn about healthy eating.
