The Nutrition Resource Centre is an initiative of the Ontario Public Health Association and is funded through the Community and Health Promotion Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Purpose and Goals The goal of the Nutrition Resource Centre is to increase the capacity of nutrition practitioners in communities across Ontario to implement nutrition programs and strategies in a health promotion context. Overview The NRC is committed to increasing the capacity of nutrition practitioners in communities across Ontario to implement nutrition programs and strategies in a health promotion context. To date, operations of the NRC have been directed to the provincial coordination and management of the Food Steps and Healthy Eating programs. In April 2001, the NRC also began managing Eat Smart! and the Community Food Advisor Programs. Go to the "Programs" section for more informaton. During its first operational year, the NRC developed An Overview of Ontario Nutrition Promotion Programs and a Directory of Nutrition Contacts and Services (Public & Community Health, Government, Food Industry, Non-Profit agencies and organizations). Projects currently underway include Current Abstracts in Nutrition Promotion and What Works in Nutrition Promotion. Close working relationships have, or are in the process of being developed with many key organizations including the Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health (OSNPPH), the Community Dietitians in Health Centres Network (Dietitians of Canada Practice Group), Cancer Care Ontario and various health promotion resource centres in Ontario. In addition, the NRC has been invited to act as a clearinghouse for national nutrition resources (i.e. Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating resource materials and the Heart Smart Cooking Course).
